A police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a fellow officer that got attacked by a blade-wielder received the Royal Recognition for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a blade to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist after a road collision in the area in mid-2023.

Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman knifed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam video released by the agency revealed Brown, wearing in black with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife outstretched.

He collided with the policeman who lost balance and dropped to the street, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor although being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a clear shot, bringing the confrontation to an finish.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Please provide help on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell suffered two deep cuts to his neck and further cuts to his limbs and body, while Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.

Authorities stated Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stop his partner's bleeding prior to emergency responders reached the scene.

The latest recognition comes after the trio of policemen won internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area union branch in April 2024.

They further earned a Regional Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The responses of each policeman eventually saved one another and ensured no members of the public experienced any injuries."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per the department.
