Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
