Countless individuals of colorfully attired participants assembled in the heart of Addis Ababa for the yearly gratitude celebration this weekend.
Irreecha is celebrated by the Oromo people, the biggest population group, and occurs at the conclusion of the land's main wet season.
Every year, celebrants assemble around revered natural water sources to give thanks to their higher powers for the greenery that the precipitation have delivered.
"I've been celebrating the festival for the previous nine years," commented young adult Moata Abdulmajid.
"In my view, this event represents my identity, it reflects the honor and significance of my community."
Men, women, the senior citizens and the youth all participate, ornamented in eye-catching garments and accessories.
They vocalize, move rhythmically, exchange narratives and place freshly cut foliage and blossoms in the water - representing life, renewal and hope.
Global Presence
This festival not only draws individuals from across Ethiopia, visitors come from globally.
"I visited the previous year - it was so good, so beautiful, I brought my kids with me this year," expressed Claire, originating from Northern Ireland.
"It is amazing. Everyone wants to say hello, each person shows warmth and offers greetings."
Event Program
The first day of the festival occurred on the weekend in the capital. On the following day, participants journeyed to Bishoftu, a community near the main city.
Although the festival has its origins in native spiritual practices, it is now celebrated by the majority of the community, without consideration for their religion.
Modern Trends
In the recent years, the figure of people joining the festival has grown significantly. This is partially because of the expansion of social media, where many youth record their outfits, dance moves and musical expressions during the celebration.

In the earlier times, this event was served as a platform for political demonstrations - the Oromo community have consistently raised issues about systemic disadvantages.
However, the latest gathering proceeded harmoniously, with an focus on happiness, unity and cultural pride.
